So it's no secret that I may (or may not?) be a crazy cat lady. Is five too many? Nope. Just more hugs for reading time! That said, there are a couple of important holidays coming up: Mother's Day and Father's Day! So, no, this isn't a book-related post (though cats are stinking ah-mazing to read with...so that kinda counts?). However, here's a cool craft to while away some time while you are home! Plus it's functional since you can make a gift (or just put a purchased gift) and put it inside for your mother or father!!! So it's easy, fun, and useful! And if you prefer dogs, you can always just change the drawing to make it appropriate. You can also make this tube look like pretty much any animal (bird, hampster, horse...be creative!). If you make some, send me a pic and I will try to post them! So I am sure you can tell from the picture, but May is National Reading Month! But this isn't actually all about reading. As you can also see from above, it is National Asian American and Pacific Islander Month. I know it seems as though they don't really go together...but they do!
Have you read Farewell to Manzanar? I know that you have probably scoured my World War II section in the library (P.S. I'm the one who has to put it in order again after checkout times...I know you like that section!). But this book often goes under the radar because it isn't overtly about WWII. It's a great book for you if you like family stories, survival stories, American history, and drama. Yup, ALL those things! This is the story of one family trying to survive in Manzanar. This is really a modern classic in the sense that it tells of the hardships American citizens were forced to survive by the American government. It's not a part of history that gets taught very often, so here you have a chance to read about a lesser publicized situation in WWII. Don't know what Manzana is? Here are a few facts to get you going:
