October 12th is the 41st anniversary of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Haven’t read it? That’s okay! It’s an adult book series that is funny and says a lot about what it means to be a human. As you get older, and after you read this book, you will notice a TON of references to this book in pop culture. Here’s just a few that you may have come across already without knowing where they came from:

Since it will be a minute before you are old enough to read this awesome novel, this is a great time to start exploring the sci-fi section of the library! There are a lot of things that we gain from reading science fiction. It teaches us about the benefits and dangers of technology in everyday life. It shows us what could happen if things remain unchanged in our environment. It teaches us about the adaptability of mankind and about racism or the acceptance of other races. Not to mention the fact that science fiction is always jam-packed full of action! We have a huge science fiction library section! The next time you are looking for a great book and want to try something new that will expose you to new places and ideas, try exploring science fiction. It is Mr. Welhoff’s favorite section! So you can start with the book Pendragon and then tell him all about your favorite parts! Or you can start with Space Case, which is one of Mrs. Arenson's favorite books.
