So I am sure you can tell from the picture, but May is National Reading Month! But this isn't actually all about reading. As you can also see from above, it is National Asian American and Pacific Islander Month. I know it seems as though they don't really go together...but they do!
Have you read Farewell to Manzanar? I know that you have probably scoured my World War II section in the library (P.S. I'm the one who has to put it in order again after checkout times...I know you like that section!). But this book often goes under the radar because it isn't overtly about WWII. It's a great book for you if you like family stories, survival stories, American history, and drama. Yup, ALL those things! This is the story of one family trying to survive in Manzanar. This is really a modern classic in the sense that it tells of the hardships American citizens were forced to survive by the American government. It's not a part of history that gets taught very often, so here you have a chance to read about a lesser publicized situation in WWII. Don't know what Manzana is?
